Beautifully Functional Pressure Cooker
I bought this pressure cooker about 8 months ago. It has been in frequent use since purchase. We are a family of four and since I am only able to fill the cooker half way (necessary per the directions for most foods) the 10 quart size has been perfect. I love making broths and soups and have also cooked a roast, various vegetables, and dried beans. The thick plated bottom prevents any danger of scorching and the whole mechanism is super simple to operate. The huge bonus about pressure cookers is the time they save you. You can literally cook a soup "last minute" or at least turn one out in 30-45 minutes that tastes like it simmered for hours.
I also love the way it looks on the stove from an aesthetic point of view (it is beautiful!). The quality and durability are paramount when you are talking about a kitchen appliance that maintains these kinds of pressures, but why not have a good looking pot as well?

Beautiful cooker and straightforward, safe, meticulous metallurgical engineering.
My two greatest fears about childhood were riding with my mom in her new Corvair, a/k/a "The Coffin On Wheels", and being in the kitchen with the hissing, rattling pressure cooker. It really did explode once, sending molten tomato spurts 30 feet toward random moving and non-moving targets. Ralph Nader took care of the Corvair and Berghoff took care of the pressure cooker.

be very careful with this!
Received today, and excitedly washed and dried it, put in the wild rice I've been waiting to try in it, and went to seal the lid on. The side handle on the side that you would seal the lid with (the lever side) came away from the body of the pot. It had been poorly attached to begin with, and just trying to seal it the first time was enough to make it pull away. Since the handle is the part that holds the pressurized lid on, this could have been a disaster.
I am sorely disappointed. It's already packed and ready for it's return, but I put a note inside the pot, in case Amazon tries to restock it. And for those of you who do buy it, please be VERY CAREFUL and look it over well before initial use.
My rice is in a stove top pot, and I am now waiting the standard time for it, but at least my kitchen and dogs and face are intact.
My guess is this is a quality control problem at the manufacturer's level, and more than likely, they have succumbed to greed...
